Start Your Moroccan Desert Road Trip
Hiring a vehicle and driving across Morocco gives you the freedom to explore at your own pace. You’ll pass through winding mountain roads, ancient kasbahs, lush oases, and bustling villages as you make your way toward the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes near Merzouga, home to Arabian Nights Desert Camp.
From Marrakech to Merzouga, the drive takes around 9 to 10 hours, while the journey from Casablanca is closer to 10 to 11 hours. Since it’s a long road trip, we highly recommend breaking up the journey with one or two overnight stays. Our team at Arabian Nights Desert Camp is happy to assist with customized itineraries and accommodation reservations in scenic locations such as:
• Aït Ben Haddou & Ouarzazate – Explore UNESCO-listed sites and ancient ksars.

Don’t Have a 4x4 Vehicle?
No problem! If you’re traveling with a regular car (2WD), we’ll arrange a meeting point in any of the nearby villages. From there:
• We’ll help you park your car in a safe, secure location.
• Our driver will meet you with a 4×4 vehicle and escort you across the dunes to Arabian Nights Desert Camp.
This final stretch is part of the magic — driving across the golden dunes as the sun begins to set is an unforgettable experience.
Bringing Your Own 4x4 Vehicle?
If you’re already driving a 4WD vehicle, we’ll connect you with one of our local guides. They will meet you at a pre-arranged point in Erfoud, Rissani, or Merzouga, and personally guide you through the dunes to our camp. Navigating the desert terrain requires local knowledge, so even if you have a 4×4, we strongly recommend letting us arrange a guide for your safety and peace of mind.
